Anna Pavignano is one of the most renowned Italian screenwriter. Born in Borgomanero (Piedmont) and now living between Turin and Rome, she co-wrote all of Massimo Troisi’s film screenplays, including the one for Michael Radford’s 1994 The Postman, for which she received a nomination for ”Best Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published” at the 68th Academy Awards. She worked again with Radford, co-writing the script for Elsa & Fred (2014), with Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer, and The Music of Silence (2017), a biopic of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. Pavignano latest screenplay was for Mario Martone’s 2023 documentary on the life of Troisi: Laggiù qualcuno mi ama. In addition to her career in the film industry, Pavignano teaches writing and has authored several childern’s books, while also establishing herself as a reliable and innovative voice within the Italian fiction writers’ panorama. In 2007 she published with E/O Editions the novel Da domani mi alzo tardi about Massimo Troisi, followed by In bilico sul mare (2009), adapted by Alessandro d’Alatri into a movie (Sul mare, 2010), Venezia, un sogno (2011), and La prima figlia (2021).
