This book traces the personal and artistic life of Massimo Troisi. To do so, the author uses a narrative pretext and pretends that the actor did not die, as is well known, in 1994, immediately after finishing filming “Il Postino,” but chose instead to retire to live in a mysterious country resort, far from the stages and fame, cutting ties with all that went before,. The novel begins at the moment when, after years of voluntary exile in which he was never heard from again and was somehow forgotten, Massimo Troisi decides to return to his old home in Rome to reconnect with his past. But it is not easy. He has no desire to look for anyone, he is embarrassed to have to explain how and why he left, how he ever returned. In the first days of his return he lives a lonely existence, until Gaetano and Anna, his closest friend and the woman with whom he shared years of work and love, convince him to start over by writing a new film. To carry out that project, Anna and Massimo rent a house outside the city, where they move in together. There, while looking for an idea for a story, Maximus discovers that Anna remembers everything about him, much more than he remembers himself: his family, episodes from his childhood when she was not there, but which he has told her about in the past; he remembers the work they did together and how they did it, their meetings, and, above all, he remembers their love. Anna begins to narrate everything to him , filling the days with intense tales that bring to light not only the funny and painful episodes of the life they shared, but Massimo's personality, way of thinking and even making people laugh. The two also rediscover in this way the pleasure of being together, their joking language, the cheerfulness and the feeling that united them in the past: their relationship seems to begin again. As time goes by - a time lived lazily, getting up late, staying up late at night listening to the stories about him - Maximus becomes involved and begins to reminisce and talk about himself himself, managing in this way to regain the thread of his own existence.
